| June 21, 2004: Winning the 104th U.S. Open
extends Retief Goosen's run of years with a victory on the PGA Tour to four but 1994 and
1998 are the only years in his professional career that he didn't win a title somewhere in
the world. |

Retief Goosen currently holds second place behind Ernie Els in
the European Tour Volvo Order of Merit having won it in 2001 and 2002. His $1,125,000
earnings from his U.S. Open victory last week moved him up to 6th place on the PGA Tour
money list and he also stands at 7th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
His four PGA Tour victories were achieved at the following events: 2001 U.S. Open
Championship 2002 BellSouth Classic 2003 Chrysler Championship 2004 U.S. Open
Championship. |
| In addition, he has recorded 16 other professional victories
worldwide and has represented South africa 12 times in team competitions. His achievements
are often overshadowed by the attention given to his countryman, Els but that seems to be
the way that Goosen likes it. He rarely misses a cut and regularly finishes in the top ten
but is a private, unemotional person who admits that he is not often recognized as he goes
about his normal life. That may start to change now that he has joined the elite band of
multiple major winners. |
