Open Qualifying
|
With exemptions now finalized
for the 2004 U.S. Open, all that remains is the sectional qualifying to determine the
remainder of the field. At the time of writing this, the first of the two days of
qualifying has been completed but not all results are available. From the results that
have been published so far, the most notable qualifiers are Brian Gay and Dudley Hart, who
have both shown excellent form in recent events.
Results of sectional qualifying will be published at:

Kellogg-Keebler Classic
Aurora, Illinois
June 4-6, 2004 |
| Webb wins her 30th LPGA title |
|
| Karrie Webb won her 30th LPGA title at the Kellogg-Keebler
Classic by five shots from the runner-up trio of Annika Sorenstam, Jeong Jang and Siew-Ai
Lim. Webb's bogey-free, 5 under par round of 67 on Sunday gave her a 16-under-par total of
200. She entered the final round at 11-under-par and faced a charge from Sorenstam, who
was four shots back. In the end, Sorenstam's four birdies on the back nine gave her a
final-round 68 to finish at 11-under-par, but it was not enough to catch Webb. Lim posted
a career-low 66 in the final round to join Sorenstam and Jang in the tie for second, her
career-best finish. With this win, Karrie Webb became only the 17th player in LPGA
history to win 30 Tour events. |

Jim Thorpe won his eighth Champions Tour title and his first of 2004
despite taking a double bogey on the final hole of the Farmers Charity Classic. His 6
under par final round of 66 gave him a 203 total for a one shot victory over Fred Gibson
who also finished with a 66. Three players finished a shot further back tied for third
place. Gil Morgan (65), whose earnings here took him over $1million for 2004, Dave
Stockton (66) and Bob Gilder (71) who started the day as co-leader with Andy Bean. Bean
had to withdraw after passing out before the start of play. He was rushed to hospital as a
result of an allergic reaction to his breakfast and although he returned to the course
after a couple of hours, decided not to compete. Thorpe's earnings this week take him
past the career $10million mark, the 15th player on the Champions Tour to reach that
milestone. |
