Hello my
golfing friends,
Well, we had a couple of epic head-to-head battles this weekend. Steve
Flesch duelling it out against Chad Campbell on the PGA Tour and Trevor Immelman matching
birdies with Padraig Harrington on the European Tour as they left the rest of the field in
their wake. Fortunately, both "matches" were settled in regulation play and
playoffs were not needed to separate them in the end, which is probably a good thing as
they could have gone on until the sun went down.
As I mentioned last week, exemption from US Open qualifying by virtue
of World Ranking position will be decided this weekend. Alex Cejka made a good effort in
Germany last week but only managed to get up to 52nd place and doesn't play this week.
Colin Montgomerie dropped out of the top 50 so he'll be looking to pick up some points at
the Volvo PGA Championship and John Daly (54th) shouldn't need to do too much at the Fedex
St. Jude Classic to earn his US Open spot. John Huston (49th) seems to be the only player
currently in the top 50 who looks likely to be nudged out at the last minute.
That's it for now. Don't forget, if there is anything you would like us
to add to Golfing Weekly, or if you have any comments you would like to
make, just drop us a line. This is your magazine and we want you to enjoy reading
it as much as we enjoy putting it together.
All the best,
Andy Smith
