| Lorena Ochoa wins Debut LPGA
Title |
| After finishing in the top ten in the previous two tournaments, including
runner-up last week, Lorena Ochoa of Mexico broke through on Sunday to take her first LPGA
title at the Franklin American Mortgage Championship. It was a memorable day for the Ochoa
family as only hours before the start of play on Sunday, her 27 year-old brother reached
the summit of Everest. Lorena duly followed up with a round of 68 to become the first
Mexican to win an LPGA Tour event and complete the family double act. Runner-up, Wendy
Ward put the pressure on Ochoa by making eagle on the 18th to complete a round of 67 for a
15 under par total of 273 but Ochoa's par on the final hole was enough to secure a one
shot victory. Her win moves her up into third place on the 2004 ADT Money List. |
