Hale Irwin extended his record to 39 wins on the Champions
Tour by claiming victory at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on Sunday by one stroke
from Gary Koch and Gil Morgan. His final round of 71 gave him an eleven under par total of
205. It came down to the final hole with Irwin and Morgan tied on minus 11 but Morgan
put his drive into a fairway bunker and was unable to reach the green. His chip was still
20 feet short of the flag and he needed two putts to complete a round of 73, his
first round over par after a run of 29 par or sub-par rounds which started before
Christmas. Par was enough for Irwin to hold on for victory in his first appearance after a
four week break with back problems.
