Hello my
golfing friends,
What a great week it's been. I spent the weekend in Fuerteventura in
order to bring you my first-hand report on the Spanish Open (officially the Canarias Open
de España) and on Sunday I learned what goes into bringing you the photos which accompany
all the reports in Golfing Weekly. A very exhausting day was spent in the
company of the Getty Images staff photographer, Stuart Franklin, dashing backwards and
forwards between the final two groups which it was clear from early in the day would
produce the winner. We must have covered twice the distance that the golfers did, carrying
cameras with two-foot telephoto lens and all the other gear that Stuart and the other
Getty Images photographers use every week to capture the best moments from each day's
play. As I flew back to Tenerife on Monday, Stuart was preparing to do it all over again
in Milan at this week's Italian Open. Total respect, I don't think I'd survive a week
doing his job.
More great news. This week we are pleased to be able to bring you the
first of our weekly cartoon strips which are being drawn
exclusively for Golfing Weekly by Roy Doty. Doty, as he signs his
cartoons, has been working on our "Off the Cart Path" cartoon strip for a few
weeks and the results are fantastic. This will certainly be a popular feature in future
issues and the original drawings, which are available through golfing-weekly.com, are sure to become
collector's items in years to come.
That's it for now. Don't forget, if there is anything you would like us
to add to Golfing Weekly, or if you have any comments you would like to
make, just drop us a line. This is your magazine and we want you to enjoy reading
it as much as we enjoy putting it together.
All the best,
Andy Smith
