Annika Sorenstam made it two wins from two starts this season when she lifted the Safeway International title, her 49th LPGA win, with a four stroke margin over nearest rival Cristie Kerr. Sorenstam's 25-foot putt on the 18th was the perfect end to a difficult day where her two-under-par 70 gave her a final total of 270, 18-under for the week. This was her first LPGA Tour start in 2004 after winning the ANZ Ladies Masters a couple of weeks ago in Australia and clearly made the point that she is in good form for the first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, later this week.

It was a hot four days at Superstition Mountain and the high winds on the final day made the conditions much tougher than during the earlier rounds. After scoring 72-67-70 on the first 3 days, teenage amateur, Michelle Wie posted a 5-over par 77 to finish on a two-under-par total of 286 and a share of 19th place.

Toshiba Senior Classic

March 18-21, 2004

Tom Purtzer won the showdown with joint overnight leader, Morris Hatalsky, by one shot with his final round 67 giving him a 15-under total of 198. Hatalsky, who pulled back Purtzer's first round lead which he had established with an 11-under-par 60, gave Purtzer a run for his money and was leading for a few holes around the turn. But Purtzer edged away to a 3 stroke lead and even though he bogeyed the 17th his par on the last was enough to win.

This win takes Tom Purtzer up from tenth to second place on the Money List and he also holds second spot in the Charles Schwab Cup points. It also makes it 3 straight top-tens from his last 3 starts.
