Vijay Singh
|
| Earlier this year, when his run of 12 consecutive top-tens
came to an end, Vijay Singh said that after a short break he would start another run and
although it is early days, two victories in the last two weeks following on from
tied-sixth in the Masters is a pretty good start. In 2003 he achieved his aim of topping
the Money List ($7,573,907) and at the moment it looks like he could do just about
anything he puts his mind to. Currently leading the 2004 Money List on $4,267,866 it is
not unreasonable to suspect that he aims to do it again this year. In this short feature
we can only give the highlights of his career so far but there is a link to his full PGA
bio at the foot of the page. |

In his eleven years on the PGA Tour, Singh has picked up
18 titles; 1993 Buick Classic. 1995 Phoenix Open, Buick
Classic. 1997 Memorial Tournament, Buick Open. 1998 PGA
Championship, Sprint International. 1999 Honda Classic. 2000
Masters Tournament. 2002 Shell Houston Open, THE TOUR
Championship presented by Coca-Cola. 2003 Phoenix Open, EDS Byron
Nelson Championship, John Deere Classic, FUNAI Classic at the WALT DISNEY
WORLD Resort. 2004 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Shell Houston
Open, HP Classic of New Orleans.
He has won two of the four major tournaments and since turning pro has won
40 titles in total, 22 of them outside the USA. |
|
In fact, he has won titles just about
everywhere in the golfing world including Malaysia, France, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco,
Zimbabwe, Singapore, Spain, Germany, England, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Canada and of
course, U.S.A.
Of Indian ancestry, his first name means "victory" in Hindi and
he certainly lives up to his name. Vijay Singh is a winner, a true champion and is
respected throughout the world of golf as one of the greats of the current era. |

| On a final note, regarding the current system of calculating
the World Golf Rankings. If one modification was made to the system, whereby everything
else stayed the same (i.e. same multiple of points, reducing value of points over 2 years,
etc.) but only the most recent 40 events were taken into account and the average
points for those 40 events was calculated, then instead of being 2.14 points behind Tiger
Woods, Vijay Singh would be 1.64 points in front. Not surprising then, that I have seen
him referred to this week as the best golfer in the world right now. |
